Heart of England Co-operative Concert Orchestra

Heart of England Co-operative Concert Orchestra is a community orchestra based in Coventry. Cebrating 100 years of music making in 2017 they wanted to raise the profile of the orchestra with extra projects above their normal concert

helped us find funding from three funders

Why we use Funding Central

"We used Funding Central to help us find funding from The Ernest Cook Trust, The Philip Bates Trust and the Skinners’ Company Lady Neville Charity. Along with funding from Coventry City Council we received £5090 in grants.

This funding enabled us to form and train two school choirs and a community choir, who sung with the orchestra in our main concert in March. We performed two world premieres. Another educational concert is planned for October when we’ll be going into schools to help build understanding of orchestras and the arts. We’ve also received funding to put a display in the local Art Gallery and Museum.

Fundraising helped us change our thinking

I think that the fact that we fundraised helped us be more aware of the needs and helped us change our way of thinking. The funding has enabled us to introduce the orchestra to a wider audience and time will tell whether the new audience members come back.

Funding advice

Make a clear project plan so that you know what you are raising money for, make it specific rather than vague. Look at the funders and read what they support. Don’t waste time filling in applications if you don’t meet their criteria, you will not be successful."
