Exploring subcontracting

Subcontracting is one of the growth areas of income for voluntary organisations. Subcontracting is carrying out work for a contractor as part of a larger project and provides opportunities for organisations to be involved in public service delivery without being responsible for the whole service or being the main contract holder.

Some contracts will be too large – or just not appropriate – to be delivered by one organisation. Or different organisations will have the specialist knowledge and experience to deliver different parts of a contract.

This section explains the processes of subcontracting and will help you to identify opportunities for subcontracting.
