19 July 2010 - South East Children Benefit from Free Broadband

Community project helps low income households get online with free broadband access.

The Community UK project has been successfully trialled in Warren Park and will now be rolled out across Leigh Park in September, with a view to expanding this to Hampshire and the UK.

The project was initiated with a £50,000 grant from the E-Learning Foundation which aims to provide internet access to every child in the UK.

The scheme was launched by Havant MP David Willetts, Minister for Skills and Universities who said:

“'This is such an exciting initiative. The idea of community access to Wi-Fi across the whole of Leigh Park is an excellent idea. It will transform people's access to information and from information comes opportunities in life.

'It's a real investment in Leigh Park and we hope the example will be a model for other communities across the country.'
